I own a 2002 Dodge Dakota in which the 5-speed manual transmission was rebuilt by another shop in 2013. I've had trouble with it since (difficulties shifting in/out of 1st and 2nd, and popping out of 5th gear). After the original shop was ineffective in resolving the problem, I decided to try to live with it; however the problems worsened this year and I began blowing clutch slave cylinders (3 in a period of 5k miles).
My experience with Pat and Pro Tech was outstanding. He wound up having to rebuild the transmission and replace the clutch, primarily due to the faulty workmanship of the previous shop. Once they began work, they finished within 4 days, which was impressive since they had to completely disassemble the unit and evaluate it prior to ordering parts. They notified me when the job was complete, and when I picked it up, they saved the old parts and went through a detailed, item-by-item explanation of why each part failed and had to be replaced. I was extremely impressed by their thoroughness, their communication, and the fact that they went into such detail (without my having to pull the information out of them) as to the failure. I was treated as a partner in the repair of my truck.
It has been 9 days since the repairs were complete, and I have taken a long road trip and have put about 1700 miles since the rebuild. The truck shifts perfectly and is once again fun to drive. Thanks to Pat and Larry for the outstanding workmanship! Pro Tech has my thanks and my highest recommendation!
After the 3rd slave cylinder failure, I pondered getting rid of the truck but was unable to find a suitable V8/manual transmission truck to replace it. Pro Tech came highly recommended, and after a very favorable first meeting, I decided to turn the repairs over to Pat.
